حديقة الجاحظ : Jnenet El Ja7ess

One of my favorite gardens in Damascus, not necessarily because it's the most beautiful one.
Just because I have the most memorable experiences there!

I remember as a child, my mum or sometimes my sister would take me there to play. I would play on the hard cement animal shaped sculptures and fly down the slides. And on the way out, my mum would buy me candy from the booths right outside the garden.
As a teenager, I would go there with my cousins and buy a "3arnous dira" (corn cob), eat it on one of the green benches in the garden and hang out cracking jokes.

And, at all times, especially at night, all the "shabab"(young generation) would drive to the "jneneh"and park around it to chill and talk till morning eating "sabara" in the summer or "foul nabet" and a cup of nescafe in the winter.

As an adult, me and my mother would wear our sweat suits and head to the garden and walk a few laps around the "Jneneh"for exercise.
And finally, as a mother, I took my children to play there, in the same exact sculpture and slides I used to ride on, with maybe a couple of additions :o)
Can't wait to take my kids there again.
I love you "Jnenet el Jahess" memory.

Breakfast in Mora (Bloudan)

Syria...

Lots of us have beautiful memories that we have experienced in Syria.
Some of us visited occasionally, some lived there for a short period others still live there (despite the situation).
This blog is for us to share our memories of our beloved Syria, the places we have been to, the food we ate, scents we have smelled, laughs we have had...

One of my favorite memories is Breakfast in Mora (Bloudan).

My grandmother would wake up first and start by calling every one of her children, who in turn would wake us up one by one. Once every member of my family was up, of course after drinking the coffee, we would all meet under my grandmother's house and start our trip by following each other all the way to the restaurant.
Once at the restaurant, we would sit on our table, of course after changing it 3 or 4 times before the final decision on which table we were going to sit on was made.

Then breakfast was served! WOW!! Hummus, Tise'yeh bil Samneh, Tise'teh bil Zeit, olives, cheese plate of mixed freshly cut vegetables, Makdouss, and tea "ikrok 3ajam".

What can I say? YUMMY!!!!

I love you "Mora Memory".
